I really enjoyed this book. I read the first Banyard & Mingle book and liked it, but I felt that B J Mears is developing his style and is becoming even more adept at telling the story of Banyard & Mingle in this second instalment.
I don’t normally read fiction at all but I find the pseudo-Victorian setting very interesting and the main characters are very likeable. I actually found the tension quite uncomfortable at times but a good story needs to have tension and resolution to make it a satisfying read!
I’m looking forward to the third book in the series.

I read the first book in this series, thoroughly enjoyed it and passed it on to a young relative. She also loved it and so I bought The Green Ink Ghost to read myself and then to pass it on as a Christmas present. A bit mean I know, but it seemed economical at the time. However I have been so captivated with this Banyard and Mingle mystery that the copy is now well thumbed and I have had to purchase a second book to send as the gift.
Excellent and exciting writing – I really look forward to the next one.

This is the second book I have read from the Banyard and Mingle series, and I very much enjoyed returning to the familiar characters in this book. Although not really aimed at my age group (it’s more of a young adult novel), I find the writing style draws me in and keeps me wanting to know what is going to happen. Set in an indefinable era, the place and the characters are well drawn, allowing the reader to picture the scenes quite vividly. The main characters, messrs Banyard and Mingle, get into some seriously perilous situations trying to solve the mystery at the root of the story. I look forward to the next book in the series to see what happens to this pair of investigators next.

I love so much about this book I wish I was a writer so I could do it justice in this review. Its a fantastically descriptive world with really enjoyable characters. I love the way there is some humour, but it also deals with big issues like social injustice on a government organised scale. Great plot with lots of twists and turns. I would highly recommend it for anyone who likes detectives with a sense of humour, and some spooky goings on mixed in with it all.

Having waited for the second Banyard and Mingle instalment it didn’t disappoint. Both my wife and I really enjoyed reading The Green Ink Ghost as it built on the first book developing the characters in this post apocalyptic fantasy world with some imagery that is not that dissimilar to the Victorian era. This book continues to touch on issues such as discrimination and poverty as you explore the world of the silkers (the ruling class) and the working class threaders who are suppressed, oppressed and lacking in opportunities. The Detective cases being investigated are drawn to a good conclusion and yet leaving you ready for the next instalment with some more unanswered questions. Another really good read that we demolished in a couple of days (always a good sign). Looking forward to book 3.

BJ Mears moves the story forward and changes gear as he does it. Banyard & Mingle are drawn into a new mystery and Mears weaves his web of storytelling with such skill. He draws you in to their world and you feel part of it as the mystery deepens. The resolution is completely unexpected and I was just drawn onwards into this book. He then leaves it with a hint (or is it a red herring?) of things to come. Can’t wait to get into the next one!

2nd book in the series and really enjoyed it.
This isn’t my normal genre but the author does draw you in and you want to find out what the duo will get up to next. Love the bits of humour that Mingle brings to the partnership.
I was hoping that Banyard might have got it together with Penney, so I guess I will need to read the next book to find out.
