This is the third in a series and was every bit as good as the first two. Ben Mears is a great story teller and that is what drives this book – a gripping, mysterious plot. How can the team hope to take on a police force and justice system that is so lazy, inept and corrupt, and entirely biased against the threaders? I thoroughly recommend this if you like detective novels – this one comes with an added hint of the Victorian era, crossed with a dystopian landscape, and a pinch of science fiction. It’s an ideal mix! I read this book in a day and can’t wait for Book 4 to be published!

This book was recommended to me by two friends. It is not the genre that would normally interest me but I thought I would give it a try.
It is a very dark book with a combination of mystery and murder which moves at a fast pace and keeps you guessing right up until the end. Ben Mears has a very descriptive writing style which vividly conjures up the continuing questions and horrors.
This is the third book in the series and I have no doubt the other books really keep you guessing too. It is easy to see how the series of books would become addictive!

When I bought ‘A sock full of bones’, Ben Mears’ first book in this series, I was not sure that I would enjoy this genre. However, having just finished reading ‘The shadow of Grayton Mire’, his third book in this series (well, I hope it’s a series), I can truthfully say that I am a complete convert. It is rightly describes as adventurous, cleverly plotted and with wonderful characters.
I’m now awaiting the next one…………………

The third book in, and the world B J Mears is creating is getting richer and more detailed the deeper we get immersed into it. This one is a brilliant traditional detective novel, but with various twists and turns that make it feel a bit different. it doffs its cap at Sherlock Holmes, while definitely maintaining it’s own style and direction.
In this book there is a colliding of plots as we get involved in the politics of a thriller, alongside a whodunnit.
Genuinely page turning, if you haven’t read any of these before, I would heartily recommend giving this world a try.

This is the third book I’ve read in the series and Mr Mears’ characters are deeper, the stories darker with each one. What I enjoyed about TSoGM is the sense of atmosphere whenever the action moves ‘out on the mire’. As with the previous books pace is maintained throughout and you never find yourself flicking over a page or two to speed things up.
Read and enjoy.

The third Banyard and Mingle instalment didn’t disappoint. Another compelling and enjoyable read “The Shadow of Grayton Mire” continues to build on the first 2 books further developing the characters and context within this post apocalyptic fantasy world. This book continues to touch on issues such as class drawing you into scenarios of discrimination provoking you to think about how you would respond if you were placed in the characters position. The Detective case being investigated is drawn to a good conclusion and yet leaving you ready for the next installment. Another really good read that I demolished in a couple of days (always a good sign). Looking forward to the next installment.

This third book in the Banyard and Mingle series was even better than I expected. Having read the previous two the expectations were high but the development of the characters and the world they inhabit was excellent, as was the plot.
Altogether an excellent read.
